  • What is Support in Motion?
Support in Motion is an organization offering activity-based support groups for individuals navigating grief and trauma. It provides a safe, welcoming space for healing through movement, nature, and creative activities, inspired by a deeply personal understanding of the challenges faced during grief and recovery.
  • Who is Support in Motion for?
Support in Motion is for individuals navigating grief and trauma who are seeking alternative ways to process their experiences. This includes parents who have experienced child or infant loss, as well as others who prefer low-pressure, activity-based approaches over traditional group discussions.
  • What makes Support in Motion different from traditional support groups?
Support in Motion focuses on healing through activities like nature walks, yoga, and art, creating opportunities for connection in a natural and supportive environment. There is no expectation to share or participate in structured discussions unless you choose to.
  • Where are events held?
Events are held at various locations across the Kansas City metro, depending on partnerships and collaborations. Specific event locations will be shared in event descriptions.
  • Do I need to RSVP or purchase a ticket to attend an event?
For most events, RSVP is encouraged. When space is limited, tickets will be required and offered on a pay-what-you-can basis as long as possible. Additional optional costs, such as purchasing a piece of pottery to paint, may apply and will be noted in the event details.
  • What if I’m not ready to participate fully?
You are welcome to attend at your own pace, whether that means quietly observing, taking part in activities, or simply being present. There is no pressure to share your story unless you feel ready.
  • Are group meetings led by professionals?
Groups are led by peers, with the help of specialists for specific activities. For example, a yoga instructor might lead a yoga session. We prioritize collaborators who have a personal connection to the group or can relate as peers whenever possible.
  • Can I attend as a support person or friend?
Yes, support persons are welcome unless the event description specifies otherwise. Certain events, such as those designed specifically for mothers of loss, are reserved for individuals who have personally experienced similar loss. We encourage honoring the group’s focus by ensuring attendees are peers whenever it’s appropriate for the event’s dynamic.
  • What types of activities are offered?
Activities include therapeutic yoga, nature walks, creative arts, and other experiences designed to foster reflection, connection, and healing.
  • Do I need to bring anything to events?
Most supplies are provided. Any required items, such as a yoga mat or water bottle, will be noted in the event description.
  • How long do events typically last?
Events generally last 1 to 2 hours.
  • Are events accessible for individuals with physical limitations?
Accessibility varies by event, but accessible locations are prioritized when organizing. Some events, such as those on unpaved trails, may have limited accessibility and will be noted in the description.
  • How do I stay updated on upcoming events?
Follow us on Facebook (@supportinmotion) or visit our Events page. While we don’t yet have a mailing list, creating an account on our site can help you stay connected for future updates.
  • What happens if an event is canceled?
Cancellation notices will be sent via email to all registered participants.
  • How can I contact Support in Motion?
You can use the contact form on our website or email us at contact@supportinmotion.org with any questions or concerns.
  • Are contributions required to attend?
Contributions are appreciated but not required for events. Your support helps cover event costs like venue rentals and supplies, ensuring we can continue offering events for our community. Contributions are not tax-deductible.
  • Is this a safe space for all backgrounds and experiences?
Yes, we are committed to inclusivity and creating a supportive environment for all participants. If you have suggestions or concerns, we encourage you to contact us at contact@supportinmotion.org.
  • Why is Support in Motion not a 501(c)(3)?
Support in Motion is not currently a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization for several reasons: As a newer organization, we are still growing and evaluating the best structure to sustain our mission. For now, operating without nonprofit status allows us to focus on building a solid foundation for our programs. Becoming a 501(c)(3) requires significant administrative resources, including compliance with detailed reporting and governance requirements. By remaining non-501(c)(3), we can dedicate more time and energy directly to supporting our community. Many of our events are supported through participant contributions and community collaborations, which means we do not rely heavily on tax-deductible donations or grants often associated with 501(c)(3) organizations. We are committed to transparency and ensuring that all contributions are used directly to support our mission. If you have further questions, feel free to contact us at contact@supportinmotion.org.
